A college student was seriously injured after being attacked by a two-member gang near a bus stop in Thonnakkal here on Friday.

The Attingal police identified the student as Vignesh, a BCom student of Sri Sathya Sai Arts and Science College. The incident occurred outside the college, where the student was reportedly waiting for a bus after classes.

According to the police, two men arrived on a motorcycle and parked it near the bus stop. A verbal altercation reportedly followed, after which one of the attackers allegedly took out a sharp weapon and struck Mr. Vignesh on the head.

Mr. Vignesh sustained serious injuries in the head and was initially taken to a nearby hospital by the other students and local residents. He was later shifted to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment.

The police have commenced examining CCTV footage from the area. The motive behind the attack is yet to be established.
