A magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia on Tuesday has killed at least 132 people and injured more than 700, according to the Association of Colombian Capitals.

Pereira, Cali, Quibdo, Manizales and Armenia were among the areas hit hardest by the earthquake. Authorities declared red alerts in the cities and imposed curfews, citing security concerns as emergency crews continued search and rescue operations.

Pereira reported the highest number of deaths, with 60 people confirmed dead. Authorities have also received missing-person reports for 188 people, raising fears that the death toll could increase further.

In Cali, Colombia's third-largest city, several roads reportedly collapsed and 10 hospitals were unable to operate following the earthquake. Search and rescue teams were dispatched from Bogotá and Medellín to support emergency operations in the affected areas.

The earthquake also disrupted water, electricity, telecommunications and transportation services in Quibdo and Manizales.

Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder said a curfew had been introduced to prevent security incidents and looting following the earthquake. He said the measure was also intended to allow emergency and rescue teams to carry out their work more safely and efficiently.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.4 and was centered about 5 kilometers east of the town of San José del Palmar in western Colombia.
