Commanders GM Adam Peters provides significant update on Jayden Daniels - Commanders Wire

We’ve heard a lot of news this week about Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and his dislocated elbow. Various orthopedic doctors have weighed in on social media and local Washington radio stations, offering different opinions on when the Commanders could expect to see Daniels again.

On Wednesday, head coach Dan Quinn didn’t have much to offer, saying only that Daniels was seeing another specialist after meeting with multiple specialists on Monday and Tuesday. He offered no timeline for a potential return.

We finally have a significant update. In his weekly spot on the Sports Junkies on 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C., Commanders general manager Adam Peters said surgery is not on the table right now.

“He just got back late last night, and the guys are meeting with him this morning, and we met with doctors, like we said, all over the country, and we’re very thorough, and we really got a lot of good opinions, so now, it’s just a matter of sitting down and thinking about what the best course of action is,” Peters said.

“As of right now, surgery is not on the table, and we haven’t discussed IR (injured reserve). So, it’s just a matter of how we’re going to get him back on the field, and that’s still to be determined.”

This is obviously great news for the Commanders and for Daniels. When he first dislocated the left elbow last November, he missed four weeks — three games — before returning and reaggravating the injury in what was a lost season for Daniels and Washington.

Peters was then asked whether the decision came down to Daniels, the team, or owner Josh Harris.

“You’re always going to lean on your medical team on that,” Peters responded. “Every injury is different, and so some of it is you’re unable to play, some of it is a ramp-up period or a return-to-play timeline, and a lot of it is, on some injuries, it's just like, can you play? It’s all those different things, and that’s what we’re working through right now.”

Daniels will miss Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. Marcus Mariota will start at quarterback. Washington has an international game in Week 4, facing the Indianapolis Colts, before returning home to play the New York Giants in Week 5. For now, Daniels is considered week-to-week.
