Commanders make roster moves ahead of Sunday's Week 2 clash with Cowboys - Commanders Wire

The Washington Commanders opened their 2026 season against the Eagles in Philadelphia last week, and it has led to injuries and roster moves for this week’s second game against the Cowboys in Dallas.

Saturday, the Commanders announced they are elevating linebacker Ale Kaho to the active roster. This was widely anticipated because the Commanders were forced to move LB Jordan Magee to injured reserve after he pulled a hamstring in the second half of the team’s loss to the Eagles (Sept. 13).

Secondly, the Commanders re-signed defensive lineman Ricky Barber to the practice squad. Interestingly enough, Barber had just been released Thursday, when Washington felt the need to sign cornerback Isaac Yiadom from the practice squad. That meant someone had to go to keep the roster at 53, and the Commanders chose Barber.

But much has transpired since Thursday. On Friday, the Commanders announced LB Frankie Luvu and TE Chig Okonkwo are out for Sunday’s road game against Dallas. Starting defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw hopes to be ready for Sunday. The Commanders listed him as questionable for Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Cowboys.

Consequently, needing a defensive lineman, the Commanders not only brought back Barber, but on Saturday, Washington also elevated Barber to the active roster.

Also of note, wide receiver Stefon Diggs was fined $14,926 for leaping onto the goal post and straddling it with both legs. Diggs had just caught a touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels, narrowing the Eagles' lead to 17-15. Diggs' penalty not only cost him nearly $ 15,000; it also cost the Commanders an opportunity to tie the game from the two-yard line. Instead, Drew Stevens had to attempt a 48-yard point-after-touchdown field goal. Stevens was successful, narrowing the Eagles’ lead to 17-16.
