Following Bassi's arrest, several Congress councillors gathered outside the Civil Lines police station.

Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said he visited the police station and objected to Bassi's alleged detention and arrest. He claimed Bassi had been called to the police station ostensibly to record a statement before being detained.

Aujla, in a post on X, said any FIR or arrest should follow due process, transparency and legal procedure. He also accused the Punjab government of using police action to "silence the Opposition" and demanded answers from the authorities.
