Congress PAC discusses strategy for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) held a meeting at Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada on Saturday to discuss measures to strengthen the party in the State and prepare for the forthcoming local body elections.
AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs P.V. Mohan attended the meeting, while APCC president Y.S. Sharmila Reddy participated through a Zoom call.
Ms. Sharmila called upon party leaders and workers to work with renewed energy to strengthen the Congress and improve its performance in the local body elections. She said there was a need to identify strong candidates and ensure that every party worker treated the local body elections as a responsibility.
Recalling that former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had wanted to see Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister, she urged Congress workers to work towards fulfilling his aspirations and described the Congress as a secular party committed to equality.
Ms. Sharmila alleged that the ruling alliance parties and the YSR Congress were both “followers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi” and claimed that people were dissatisfied with both the TDP and YSRCP. She said the Congress should emerge as an alternative in the State. She stressed the need to put an end to group politics in the party and focus on strengthening the organisation.
The APCC chief welcomed the appointment of Mr. Mohan as the State party affairs in-charge and expressed confidence that his experience and seniority would help strengthen the organisation in Andhra Pradesh. She also urged him to facilitate full support from the AICC for the State unit.
The PAC discussed the party’s organisational preparedness and electoral strategy for the local body elections, with emphasis on candidate selection, grassroots mobilisation and strengthening coordination among party leaders and workers.
