Congress to launch Bharat Jodo 2.0 in Shikaripur

The Congress has chosen Shikaripur, the constituency represented by Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, to launch its Bharat Jodo 2.O campaign on Wednesday.

Several senior party leaders, including KPCC president B.K. Hariprasad, will take part in the launch, which comprises a 10-km padayatra and a public meeting. The padayatra will begin at Kittadahalli and proceed to Shikaripur town via Maddi Note Cross, Hosanagara Cross and Nelavagilu Cross. The public meeting will be held at the market place.

School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa visited Shikaripur on Monday and held a meeting with local party leaders. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Bangarappa, who is also the in-charge Minister for Shivamogga district, said the party had chosen Shikaripur to send a political message across the State. “We are committed to winning the seat in the next elections,” he said.

District Congress Committee president H.C. Yogesh told reporters on Tuesday that the party had resolved to conduct Bharat Jodo-2 in all 84 Assembly constituencies where it had lost in the last Assembly elections. The campaign would begin with Shikaripur.

“We are launching the campaign from Shikaripur, which is historically significant besides being politically important. Shikaripur is known for Esur, the village that played a significant role in the freedom movement,” he said.

During the padayatra, the party would speak to people about its guarantee schemes and the injustice being done in the name of the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls, he added.
