Cowboys post questionable image of Commanders QB Jayden Daniels before deleting it

In preparation for their Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys posted a collection of images from their matchups against Washington on X (formerly Twitter). One photo showed Dallas linebacker Shemar James celebrating after sacking Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels.

No problem, right? Of course not. Sacks are celebrated and should be celebrated. However, Daniels was lying on the ground, injured, and would leave the game after that play. He missed the rest of that Week 7 matchup; he returned two weeks later.

The Cowboys’ social media team drew plenty of criticism for posting that specific image. Later on Friday, they deleted the entire post. But, as we know, the internet lives forever. Here’s what the Dallas social media team posted.

It probably doesn’t help that the image shows an injured Daniels on the ground in pain, with the caption, “some of our favorite moments vs. the Commanders.” Considering that is one of their favorite moments against, they clearly don’t appreciate the history between these two franchises dating back to 1960.

Were the Cowboys wrong for posting that specific image? It depends on who you ask. Remember, Jerry Jones, Brian Schottenheimer, and Dak Prescott weren’t behind that. However, not every Dallas fan agreed with the post.

Washington players aren’t thinking about this. It wouldn’t be surprising if a Commanders coach posted an image of the tweet in the locker room sometime ahead of Sunday’s game, though. Why? Well, that’s what coaches do. Always looking for an edge, even for something as simple as a social media post that none of the coaches or players had anything to do with.

Sunday’s game is an important one for the Commanders and Cowboys. The loser of this game falls to 0-2, more importantly, 0-2 in the division.
