Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu stressed that the party, along with those who align with its ideology, has stood solidly with the Dalits during difficult times.

He was addressing a national seminar at Sri Venkateswara Univesity (SVU) on ‘Dalit literature and people’s movement’, organised by the varsity’s Department of Adult and Continuing Education, in association with Dalit Sahitya Vikasa Vedika, here on Wednesday. The CPI(M) leader recalled the numerous instances when Dalit rights were ‘trampled upon’ in Indian history.

Mr. Raghavulu called untouchability as a cruel form of crime perpetrated by some humans in the ancient days. Recalling Dalit literature as the voice of resentment born from oppression, he explained how the Communists had stood by and supported the Dalits in their fight for basic human rights.

Paying tributes to renowned social activist and writer Bojja Tarakam, the CPI(M) leader hailed him for dedicating exclusive print space for the Dalit community.

Republican Party of India (RPI) president P. Anjaiah and Zilla Parishad former CEO M. Venkatanarayana also took part.
