The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday petitioned the District Collector, seeking legal action against Pendurthi MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu and the concerned polling officials over an alleged irregularity in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections held on November 1.
In a representation, party district secretary M. Jaggunaidu alleged that Mr. Ramesh Babu voted for the mayoral and corporator candidates at Booth No. 115/8 in Ward 115, where, he claimed, the MLA had no vote.
He further alleged that the booth officials issued ballot papers to the MLA in violation of election law, and contended that such conduct would erode public confidence in the electoral process.
The party leaders demanded a thorough enquiry and action against the legislator and concerned officials. According to the leaders, complaints were submitted to the State Election Commissioner and the Returning Officers of the GVMC Pendurthi zone.
