Criminals have no caste, says Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary

BiharChief MinisterSamrat Choudhary on Tuesday (September 22, 2026) replied to the Opposition’s allegation in which the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) asked why the caste identity of only one accused was revealed.
Mr. Choudhary asserted that he never goes behind caste or religion, and a criminal is simply a criminal and has no caste. He made this statement following the police action in which the main accused (Nandan Kumar Yadav) was shot in his leg in an encounter.
“A criminal is simply a criminal; they have no caste. If a criminal challenges the police, the police will respond accordingly,” Mr. Choudhary said, adding that the rule of law and development with justice are the government’s priorities.
He further said, “Bihar is not only the government’s responsibility but the collective responsibility of the State’s 14 crore people. All departments and the general public must work together to advance the resolve for a ‘Developed India’ and the goal of a ‘Prosperous Bihar’ envisioned by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.”
Mr. Choudhary said this during the programme organised by the Energy Department, where he transferred the state financial subsidy to the 25,000 beneficiaries of PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
He also launched the Mukhyamantri Solar Protsahan Yojana and flagged off nine Solar Raths to raise awareness of solar energy among the public.
Earlier in the day, RJD posted a message on X saying that the accused Nandan Kumar Yadav in the Jamui incident has been subjected to a half-encounter, which was commendable, but why not a full encounter?
“Bharat Tiwari will face a full encounter, but why only a half-encounter for this mentally criminal person who committed a wrong against a minor? Which law is protecting him? There are a total of 6-7 accused, so why is only Nandan Kumar Yadav’s caste being highlighted? Why are the caste identities of the rest being concealed? When the crime is equal for all, then why an encounter for just one—why no encounters for the remaining?”RJD stated in the X post.
RJD added, “Why are the criminals being protected? Bharat Tiwari was shot dead right on the street—when will these 6 be shot, or will they all be saved through legal games? The Chief Minister has openly told the people of Bihar that criminals with green gamchhas will keep facing encounters. Then why the protection for those with saffron gamchhas? When will all 6 face full encounters? Why have the caste identities of the remaining accused been concealed? Chief Minister, please respond.”
