The Cardiological Society of India (CSI), Mysuru chapter, which organised a walkathon as part of World Heart Day celebrations in Mysuru on Sunday, will be holding radio-based heart-health awareness programmes and free cardiology camps across the region as part of its year-round awareness initiative.
President and secretary of CSI’s Mysuru Chapter Dr. Hema S. and Dr. Anand Lingan, in a joint statement here, said the radio-based heart-health awareness programmes, which will be held twice a month, will focus on topics like prevention of heart disease, blood pressure and cholesterol awareness, diabetes, and heart health, healthy diet, and physical activity.
The programme will also cover recognition of warning symptoms, importance of regular health check-ups, tobacco avoidance, heart health among women and younger people, besides when to seek emergency medical attention.
The objective is to make reliable cardiovascular-health information accessible to the general public in a simple and understandable manner, the statement said.
CSI’s Mysuru chapter also proposes to extend its awareness activities beyond Mysuru to surrounding districts, including Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu, Chamarajanagar, and Chikkamagaluru.
The proposed awareness activities will include free cardiology camps, public health talks, medical-college awareness programmes, and community education activities, the statement said.
As part of its continuing community outreach, the CSI Mysuru Chapter plans to conduct free cardiology screening and awareness camps at selected locations. These camps may include basic cardiovascular-risk assessment and counselling, with appropriate referral for further medical evaluation whenever required.
The chapter also proposes to collaborate with medical colleges, hospitals, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and community organisations to conduct health-awareness sessions.
The statement pointed out that the theme for World Heart Day 2026 is “Don’t Miss a Beat.” The CSI Mysuru Chapter has been serving the medical and public-health community since 1999 and is completing 27 years of its activities in 2026. Over the years, the Chapter has been involved in academic, professional, and community-oriented initiatives aimed at improving awareness regarding cardiovascular diseases.
Cardiovascular diseases remain an important public-health concern. Major modifiable risk factors include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, tobacco use, obesity, and other lifestyle-related factors, the statement added.
