DA calls on Hlabisa to probe 10 municipal managers for maladministration - EWN

The Democratic Alliance (DA) referred 10 municipal managers from the worst-performing municipalities to Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa for maladministration investigations.

The party said one of the municipal managers unsuccessfully sued the DA after it laid a criminal complaint against him with the police for maladministration.

The DA wants Hlabisa to intervene and send a clear message to the country's poorly run municipalities.

DA Parliamentary Leader George Michalakis said under Section 106(4)(5) of the Municipal Systems Amendment Act, the CoGTA minister is empowered to request MECs to investigate maladministration within 90 days.

He noted that, failing which, the minister's office may commence investigations itself.

Michalakis said since the party announced its plan to lay criminal complaints against 10 poor-performing municipal managers, it was time for Hlabisa to act.
