DA to lodge complaint against Majondina after vulgar outburst at EC community meeting - EWN

The Democratic Alliance (DA) said that it will lodge a complaint with Parliament’s Ethics Committee against Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina following a vulgar outburst at a community meeting in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.

Majodina lost her temper after a resident swore at her, prompting her to repeat the profanity back at the man. 

The DA said she should be sanctioned by both Parliament and President Cyril Ramaphosa for her behaviour. 

The DA-run Kouga Municipality is fraught with water supply problems. 

Majodina was in the town of Loerie to hear residents’ complaints when the meeting turned sour after Majodina allegedly told the gathering to vote for the African National Congress (ANC) in the upcoming election. 

The exchange between Majodina and the resident was captured on camera. 

As the man was escorted from the hall while swearing at Majodina seated at the top table, she lost her cool and repeated the profanity back at the man. 

DA parliamentary leader George Michalakis said Majodina’s outburst was unacceptable for a Cabinet minister, who cannot respond with vulgar insults when they are challenged by the public. 

Michalakis said the incident must be fully investigated because Majodina’s behaviour brings the ANC, Parliament and government into disrepute, and undermines public confidence in her.
