Dad returns with one last bottle of water after dropping daughter at railway station

A father’s last-minute return to a railway station left his daughter in tears after he came back with a bottle of water for her journey. Akriti Singh, a PhD student at Delhi University, shared a video on Instagram about the sweet gesture while travelling from Jaunpur to Delhi.

Akriti said her father had initially accompanied her to the station in Jaunpur and left after seeing her board the train.

He later called her to check if she would be able to get water during the journey. Akriti reassured him that water would be available on the train.

“Pani mil jayega, I said haa papa mil jata hai, aate rehte h train me to pani wale (Water will be available. I told him, ‘Yes Papa, I get it on the train. The water sellers keep coming by),” she said.

Her answer, however, did not put her father completely at ease. He apparently kept wondering whether she would actually manage to get a bottle during the journey and decided to return to the station.

“He came back to railway station with one water bottle. I was so so so touched, my eyes got wet,” Akriti wrote.

For her, the gesture went beyond the bottle of water. She said it reminded her of the kind of love that often comes through small, practical acts rather than elaborate expressions.

“I will do everything to make this man proud. I love you Papa,” she wrote.

Akriti also described the moment as something many daughters who live away from home could relate to, especially those who have moved to another city for education or work.

Her post comes amid a series of social media videos capturing emotional railway station farewells between parents and their children. A few days earlier, another woman, Khushi Solanki, shared a video of her parents smiling and waving from the platform as her train pulled away.

While the moments are simple, they capture a familiar part of leaving home; parents finding small ways to care for their children right until the last possible moment.
