DC producer Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures has gifted brand-new BMW cars to the core team of the film following its successful theatrical run. Director Arun Matheswaran, actor Lokesh Kanagaraj and music composer Anirudh Ravichander were presented with BMW cars as a special gesture to celebrate the film’s Rs 100-crore run. However, the gesture has also left some fans questioning why actor Wamiqa Gabbi, who played the female lead, was not part of the felicitation.

DC, which hit theatres on August 7, stars Lokesh Kanagaraj in his acting debut, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy. Directed by Arun Matheswaran and produced by Sun Pictures, the action drama has emerged as a commercial success, crossing the Rs 100 crore worldwide mark against a budget of around Rs 25 crore.

The film’s success prompted Maran to recognise three members of the team — Arun, Lokesh and Anirudh. While Arun helmed the film, Lokesh played the lead role of Devadas and Anirudh composed the music and background score. Their contributions became some of the talking points surrounding the film after its release.Mr. Kalanithi Maran congratulated and presented the keys to brand-new BMW cars to Arun Matheswaran, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Anirudh, for the success of Blockbuster #DC! @Dir_Lokesh @ArunMatheswaran @anirudhofficial #DCMegaBlockbuster pic.twitter.com/QOgmCA6ZqI— Sun Pictures (@sunpictures) September 10, 2026However, the decision to gift cars only to the director, lead actor and music composer has sparked a conversation among fans, with some asking why Wamiqa was not included in the gesture. Wamiqa played Chandra, the female lead opposite Lokesh, and her performance was also part of the film’s reception.

A user wrote, "no car for wamiqaare you for real right now? (sic)." Another user questioned the decision by posting, "Curious question - gifting car after film’s success is a fashion down south so what these people do with so many cars they keep on getting in gifts? By the way, it’s so disappointing to see that no car for @iWamiqaGabbi | she was the soul of the movie man (sic)."

Here are some reactions: DC offers a darker, action-oriented take on the Devdas-inspired story, with Lokesh playing Devadas and Wamiqa as Chandra. The film also marked a significant career shift for Lokesh, who moved from behind the camera to playing the protagonist. His physical transformation and performance drew attention even before the film’s release.

Arun Matheswaran’s screenplay and the performances received appreciation, while Anirudh’s music and background score added to the film’s appeal. Following its theatrical run, DC began streaming on Sun NXT, taking the film to a wider audience.

While the BMW gifts have become another talking point around DC, the question from fans remains: why was Wamiqa Gabbi left out of the special gesture?- EndsPublished By: K JananiPublished On: Sep 11, 2026 09:14 ISTALSO READ | DC review: Arun Matheswaran's revenge saga is brutal, beautiful and bold
