Delhi cop assaulted at AAP's slap row protest, MLA Jarnail Singh seen in video
A Delhi Police head constable was assaulted during an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protest in Tilak Nagar against the slapping of party MLA Jarnail Singh’s aide by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma.
A video of the Monday incident has surfaced on social media, showing the head constable, who was in plain clothes, carrying out videography and information-gathering duties.
The footage shows a large crowd of AAP supporters and workers, including MLA Jarnail Singh and former Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, marching along a road in Tilak Nagar.
Several police personnel can be seen manning a barricade and trying to control the crowd.
The head constable, wearing a green polo shirt, is initially seen among the police personnel before walking ahead and recording the protest march on his phone.
As the crowd moves forward, several protesters, including Jarnail Singh, push the head constable. Singh is also seen pointing towards the cop.
The crowd then catches the head constable. Several police personnel then step in to free him, leading to a heated exchange.
One officer eventually escorts him to safety.
Police are considering registering an FIR in connection with the assault.
The incident took place a day after Parvesh Verma slapped Jarnail Singh's aide Sahib Singh during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar.
Verma was inspecting road work when he got into an argument with Jarnail Singh over the quality of construction. Sahib Singh was recording the exchange when Verma pushed down his phone and slapped him.
Sahib Singh has claimed that Verma slapped him to stop the recording.
The dispute led to complaints and police action involving both sides.
An FIR has also been filed against Jarnail Singh and PWD engineers for obstructing government work, intimidation and threats.
Reacting to the slap video, Saurabh Bhardwaj questioned the police investigation and alleged that the police were shielding the minister.
"We asked the SHO, since you claimed an investigation was underway, what exactly has been investigated. They have no answer regarding what investigation has been conducted over the past 24 hours," Bhardwaj said.
"The police are shielding Parvesh Verma and inciting the youth of the country."- Ends
