Delhi dengue cases cross 400 as Sept records highest monthly rise so far this year

Delhi recorded 121 dengue cases in September so far, taking the city’s tally to 432 this year, while malaria cases have also reached their highest monthly figure of 2026, according to data released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The MCD’s weekly vector-borne disease report, updated till September 12, showed that September’s dengue count is already more than a fourth of the cases reported this year and the highest monthly figure so far.

The capital recorded 71 fresh dengue infections in the past week alone, the data showed.

West Delhi reported the highest number of dengue cases this year at 57, followed by the Central zone with 54 and Shahdara North with 50.

Malaria cases have also risen, with 183 infections reported this year, including 64 in September so far, the highest monthly count this year. No malaria-related deaths have been reported in Delhi in 2026.

The city has recorded 24 chikungunya cases this year, down from 46 during the corresponding period in 2025. Two chikungunya cases have been reported in September so far.

Delhi had reported 619 dengue cases by the corresponding period last year, compared with 709 in 2024, 2,097 in 2023 and 295 in 2022.

Amid the rise in vector-borne diseases, the MCD has intensified mosquito-control measures. Its teams have inspected more than 2.79 crore houses for mosquito breeding this year, finding active mosquito larvae in 1.47 lakh homes.

The civic body has issued more than 1.10 lakh legal notices for conditions conducive to mosquito breeding, initiated 11,943 prosecutions and collected Rs 15.59 lakh in penalties.
