Congress member B.S. Shivanna brought up the contentious socio-economic survey (caste census) conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes.

On September 23, during the discussion on drought in the Assembly, he said the government of Karnataka should convene a special session to discuss the survey report of the Madhusudan Naik Commission in detail.

“The government has spent hundreds of crores to get the survey done. It should not go into cold storage. People need to know the details of the report,” said Mr. Shivanna, a follower of former chief minister Siddaramaiah.

The report was submitted to Mr. Siddaramaiah a day before he stepped down as chief minister. Since then, he has, on a couple of occasions, spoken about the necessity of implementing the recommendations of the report.
