Denver Broncos: Studs and duds from 20-13 win over Jaguars - Broncos Wire

The Denver Broncos showed their teeth in a gritty 20-13 come-from-behind win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 on Sunday. It sure wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination to start the game, but the Mile High magic showed through, especially in the second half. With former quarterback Tim Tebow on hand, it felt like one of those 2011 afternoons.

We take a look at the studs and duds from the Broncos' win.

If there was anyone who needed an awakening, it was wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. After just a one-catch show in Week 1, Waddle balled out in Week 2. Waddle caught eight passes for 138 yards, showing his explosive speed and big-play ability in his home debut. Waddle's part in Week 2 outperformed quarterback Bo Nix's entire yards total from Week 1. He is certainly showing why Denver went out and took a swing on him.

For the second straight week, Denver had drives inside the 10, only to come away with three collective points on two first-half drives. On the first foray into the red zone, Denver started on the Jaguar ONE, running the ball on three straight plays, losing two yards on the goal line. That resulted in a field goal. On the second trip, Nix had about as bad an interception as one will see, throwing off his back foot into the end zone, resulting in an interception. In order to win football games in the next few weeks, the Broncos will need to convert seven points on those trips.

The rookie running back saw extended time today with the absence of RJ Harvey and the late injury to J.K. Dobbins, and he sure made the most of it. Coleman had 58 all-purpose yards (39 rushing, 19 receiving) and his first career rushing touchdown. Coleman hit his first Mile High Salute, and had the presence of mind to go down in bounds on the final play before the two-minute warning, icing the game. With Dobbins' availability uncertain for the time being, and Harvey's injury timeline unknown, Coleman could ascend to RB1 as soon as Week 3.

Penalties could have (and at times, did) have a tremendous impact on the game. Pre-snap penalties on offense put the Broncos behind the sticks at crucial moments, while an illegal contact penalty on Riley Moss wiped out a strip-sack from Nik Bonitto in the first quarter. Denver finished with 10 accepted penalties for 53 yards (Jacksonville did decline a few penalties throughout the game). Those penalties killed promising drives and extended opponent drives. These next four weeks, penalties could make or break a game against the best opponents the Broncos have on their schedule.

Although Moss had an illegal contact penalty to negate the Bonitto strip-sack, he more than made up for it with a third-quarter interception. Moss' turnover completely turned the tide of the game, leading to the first Broncos touchdown of the game, tying the contest at 13. Moss also nearly had a second interception, showing that his offseason training and training camp performance were no fluke: Moss is geared up for a big year. With Surtain on one side, and a better Riley Moss on the other, Denver could shut down entire offenses in 2026.

The Broncos now immediately turn their focus to Week 3 and the Los Angeles Rams.
