Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Monday criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government for “turning a blind eye”to inflation.
In a post on his social media handle, he said it was for third time since the assumption of office by the TVK-led regime in May that the prices of essential commodities had risen. He attributed the development to the reduction in coverage of paddy this year in the wake of the TVK-led regime’s “inability” to secure the State’s share of water. The present situation had affected the livelihood opportunities of farmers “badly”.
Mr. Dhinakaran pointed out that the government’s move to sell onions through fair price shops at a rate of ₹35 per kg had remained “only on paper.” He also criticised the observation of Revenue Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan about the quality of rice being supplied to people. He called upon Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to take steps to protect the interests of marginalised people and ensure the supply of rice and other essential commodities through the public distribution system.
