DisCos collect ₦205bn revenue as billing gap hits ₦83bn - Punch Newspapers
Nigeria’s electricity Distribution Companies billed ₦250.79bn worth of electricity out of ₦333.94bn worth of energy received in July 2026, leaving a billing gap of about ₦83.15bn, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has said. NERC disclosed this in its July 2026 Factsheet on the financial health and efficiency of the Distribution Companies, released on September 24. According to the commission, the industry recorded a 75.10 per cent billing efficiency during the month, with “total energy billed reaching ₦250.79bn out of ₦333.94bn energy received.” The regulator also said the DisCos collected ₦205.53bn in revenue during the month, representing an 81.95 per cent collection efficiency. “Collection Efficiency: Recorded at 81.95%, resulting in a total revenue collection of ₦205.53bn for the month,” NERC stated.See more Punch stories on Google.Add Punch on Google The commission said the industry’s overall revenue recovery performance stood at 74.91 per cent in July. Eko Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest recovery efficiency among the DisCos at 94.67 per cent, followed by Port Harcourt DisCo with 84.95 per cent and Benin DisCo with 79.15 per cent. Highlighting the top performers, NERC said, “Eko (94.67%), Port Harcourt (84.95%), and Benin (79.15%) DisCos recorded the highest recovery efficiency levels for July.” The commission said the factsheet provided details on the financial performance of the electricity distribution companies as part of efforts to keep stakeholders informed about developments in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
