Trump's statement followed calls by tech leaders such as Anthropic's Dario Amodei and OpenAI's Sam Altman for more governmental regulation of AI. In recent months, several incidents have highlighted the risk that AI agents could go rogue.

"The only control or ‘guardrails' that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!" Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

Trump added that his administration has already prevented Anthropic from "doing bad, or potentially bad" things with the technology.

The Pentagon previously tried to brand Anthropic's models a security risk and posed a temporary ban on one of its more advanced models.

"There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China," Trump wrote.

Anthropic boss Amodei warned against uncontrolled global AI development over the weekend saying that there's a risk of AI-led agents taking over the entire internet within six to 12 months. Microsoft published its own code of conduct to ensure human control over AI.

This led to AI stocks falling worldwide, including those of chip maker Nvidia (3.5%) and Elon Musk's SpaceX (1.7%).
