Drake Maye makes admission after multiple turnovers in loss to Jaguars - Patriots Wire
For the first time since Mike Vrabel took over as head coach, the New England Patriots looked like a bad football team in Sunday's 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
At the center of it all was their franchise quarterback, Drake Maye, who continued to turn the ball over multiple times. This time, he had one fumble with nobody around him, along with two bad interceptions that took potential points off the board and set the Jaguars' offense up with great field position.
Maye's drop-off from the 2025 season, when he was the runner-up for the MVP award behind Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has been stunning. So far this season, he has thrown only one touchdown pass and six interceptions through three games.
On Sunday, he went 14-of-25 passing for 199 yards and two interceptions.
"I got to look at myself in the mirror and take this as a turning point," Maye told reporters after the game.
There are too many comparisons to last season, but there are also key differences.
Yes, the Patriots started off the year with a 1-2 record, but those teams had Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte. They also had a healthy defense to stop the bleeding. More importantly, they had a confident young quarterback who initially seemed destined to carve his name amongst the greats.
This 2026 team and its burgeoning superstar quarterback are unrecognizable so far.
