Three cashiers at a Limpopo Licensing Testing Station have been arrested.

Three cashiers at a Limpopo Licensing Testing Station have been arrested after allegedly being found with cash concealed on their bodies during a corruption operation targeting an alleged “cash-for-driver’s licence” scheme.

The three women, two aged 63 and the other 53, were arrested during a joint operation involving SAPS Crime Intelligence and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) at the Marble Hall Driving Licence Testing Centre.

According to SIU spokesperson Selby Makgotho, money was allegedly found concealed on the cashiers during the operation.

One of the 63-year-olds allegedly had about R4,500 concealed in her underwear while another allegedly hid R800 in her breast.

The third cashier was also arrested as part of the operation.

The three women are facing charges of fraud, corruption and contravention of the Cybercrimes Act.

Makgotho said they are also accused of tampering with the electronic National Administration Traffic Information System (eNatis).

The allegations relate to the suspected manipulation of the eNatis system to unlawfully facilitate driver’s licence-related processes.

The arrests form part of an investigation into allegations that motorists were paying cash to have licensing processes manipulated or unlawfully expedited.

One of the 63-year-old women allegedly concealed about R4,500 in her lower undergarment, while another allegedly hid R800 in her bosom.

Earlier, Makgotho said the operation resulted in the arrest of a KwaZulu-Natal man who is allegedly linked to the cash-for-driver’s licence scheme.

His arrest followed a joint investigation by SAPS Crime Intelligence and the SIU into alleged corruption at the Marble Hall Driving Licence Testing Centre.

Makgotho said the man allegedly solicited R2,000 per licence from applicants, promising to secure learner’s licences without them undergoing the required testing process.

With the three additional arrests, four suspects have now been arrested in connection with the investigation.

Authorities are continuing to probe the alleged scheme and whether other individuals may have been involved.
