The Philadelphia Eagles survived a fourth-quarter rally to begin the season 1-0, with Jalen Hurts completing 14 of 25 passes for 203 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Dallas Goedert caught four passes for 77 yards and two scores, while Saquon Barkley rushed for 83 yards. Goedert’s 43-yard catch-and-run touchdown gave the Eagles a 24-16 lead with 6:02 remaining.

Outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard was ruled out because of a pectoral injury. Greenard returned to practice this week but is still working toward handling a full workload after missing training camp. Rookie tight end Eli Stowers was downgraded to out with quadriceps and hamstring injuries and subsequently placed on injured reserve. He will miss at least the first four games of the season.
The Eagles elevated Britain Covey from the practice squad for the game. Covey is a candidate to handle punt-return responsibilities while providing additional depth at wide receiver.
The Eagles have announced five inactive players for Sunday’s season opener against the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field. Quarterbacks Tanner McKee and Cole Payton, wide receiver Elijah Moore, edge rusher Jonathan Greenard, and offensive lineman Micah Morris will not have standard active status for the divisional matchup.
Washington did not assign a game-status designation to any player on its final injury report. Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson were among the players medically cleared to play.
Washington’s official inactive list is also expected at approximately 2:55 p.m. ET. All players on the final injury report were cleared, but the Commanders will still declare healthy scratches to reach the required game-day roster limit.
Vic Fangio confirmed Marcus Epps as one of Philadelphia’s starting safeties. The Eagles can change that alignment depending on the personnel package. Cooper DeJean is expected to play safety in the base defense before moving to nickel when Philadelphia adds another defensive back. Michael Carter II gives Fangio another flexible option because he can contribute at nickel, dime, or safety.
