The Election Commission (EC) has moved to revoke the electoral rights of Sila town mayor Phairat Thaweewan and 24 other individuals over alleged violations of election laws.

The commission is also seeking a fresh election for the mayoral post and two municipal council constituencies.

According to a letter from the Khon Kaen provincial election office, the EC has reviewed allegations of irregularities in the Sila town municipal election in Muang district.

The allegations concern violations of the Election of Members of Local Assemblies or Local Administrators Act, B.E. 2562 (2019), as amended in 2023, as well as breaches of the EC's regulations governing election campaigning.

Following its review of the evidence, the provincial election commission resolved to recommend that a petition be filed with the Court of Appeal or a regional Court of Appeal seeking an order revoking the electoral rights of Mr Phairat and the 24 other respondents.

The commission also recommended holding fresh elections for the Sila town mayoral position and municipal council seats in Constituencies 1 and 2.
