EESL to showcase India’s energy-efficiency initiatives in Germany

The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) is set to showcase India’s experience and success in implementing energy-efficiency and clean-energy programmes across States at an international knowledge-exchange programme in Ravensburg, Germany, from September 28 to October 2.
The agency functioning under the Ministry of Power has been invited by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to participate in the international study tour and share India’s experience in energy efficiency, clean-energy solutions and sustainable development.
Media & Government Affairs Adviser to EESL A. Chandra Shekhara Reddy said the invitation provides an opportunity to highlight how large-scale energy-efficiency programmes have been translated into practical solutions across diverse geographies and sectors.
EESL would highlight a range of initiatives implemented across several States in the country, demonstrating the potential of scalable and locally adapted solutions to deliver energy savings, improve public services and support sustainable development.
They include energy-efficient cooking solutions in all anganwadi centres of Andhra Pradesh, street-lighting initiatives in Telangana, decentralised solar systems in Maharashtra, energy-efficient buildings in Gujarat, smart metering initiatives in Bihar, street-lighting programmes in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, electric mobility initiatives in Odisha, micro cold-storage systems in Himachal Pradesh and energy-efficient water-pumping systems in Kerala.
EESL has successfully implemented the energy-efficient LED street lighting project in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area by replacing about 5.5 lakh conventional street lights with energy-efficient LED lights. As per EESL records, this has resulted in substantial energy savings of more than 61%, leading to an annual energy saving of 230 million units, reduction of 0.19 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum and avoided peak demand of 60 MW.
