The Tamil Nadu State Cooperative Societies Election Commission is considering holding elections to 7,405 primary cooperative societies across 38 zones in the first phase of the electoral process.
In a recent letter to the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Dayanand Kataria, Commissioner of the Tamil Nadu State Cooperative Societies Election Commission (TNSCSEC), said the Commission had decided to hold elections to 7,405 primary cooperative societies in the 38 zones in Phase I in four stages. The Commission also sought district-wise details of these societies. It also sought details of the cooperative societies for which elections would be conducted in Phases II to V.
According to official sources, last time, elections were held to 18,244 cooperative societies, and 1,88,400 board members were elected in 2018. After the five-year term of the board members expired in 2023, administrators were appointed to the cooperative societies.
