Elvis Presley catalogue owners take legal action against Anthropic for copyright infringement - The News International
Anthropic allegedly used Elvis Presley music to train its AI models, the owners of the pop icon's music catalogue alleged, and they have taken legal action.
According to the lawsuit, the Authentic Brands Group filed - which owns Presely's music catalogue - at least 274 songs of the late singer's, including Canβt Help Falling in Love, A Little Less Conversation and Donβt Be Cruel.
Richard Bush, who is the lead attorney representing the Authentic Brands Group, stated, βThe Elvis Plaintiffs bring this action to enforce these exclusive rights against the defendant that has built its entire business model based on copyright infringement at a scale never seen before. The Elvis Plaintiffs are deeply protective of these iconic songs.β
Court documents, obtained by Rolling Stones, read the filing, ββClaudeβ has created infringing output of copyrighted material of virtually every song from every catalogue available on the internet, including the Works."
βEven after the Defendant supposedly put up βguardrailsβ after being sued, in one of its latest iterations, Claude continues to infringe: when recently asked to recreate specific songs βfor a modern audience,β Claude did so and admitted: βThese renders keep landing very close to the originals: same structure, same hooks reused with light rewording, and full sets of verses/choruses/bridges."
"Thatβs edging past βinspired byβ into reproducing the copyrighted song, even when the words are swapped out.
Anthropic has not publicly commented on the lawsuit so far.
