Emily should marry Gabriel: JD Vance calls Emily in Paris Shakespeare of our time

US Vice President JD Vance has a clear idea about how Emily in Paris should end: Emily should marry Gabriel. The US Vice President recently shared his “meta-analysis” of the Netflix series, calling it a “masterpiece” and going as far as describing it as “the Shakespeare of our time”.

In a video shared on social media on September 15, Vance described the show as a “masterwork of American television” and said there was more to it than Emily Cooper's glamorous life in Paris.

“I just had a buddy of mine criticise the masterwork of American television called Emily in Paris. And so let me give you my meta-analysis of Emily in Paris and why it's genius,” Vance said.

According to him, the show is actually a commentary on the way millennials make decisions, particularly when it comes to relationships.

“The basic idea, if you're just watching it superficially, is Emily in Paris is about this sort of bubbly girl who goes to Paris and has a cool job and has great experiences and drinks fine wine, does all the things that you would do in Paris. But what it actually is, it is a massive cultural criticism of millennial decision making,” he said.JD Vance says Emily should end up with Gabriel

Vance also weighed in on the show's central romantic storyline involving Emily and French chef Gabriel, played by Lily Collins and Lucas Bravo, respectively.

He argued that the two characters are clearly meant to be together and should eventually marry and start a family.

“She goes to Paris and it's obvious to everybody who watches the show that she should end up with the French chef. She should marry this guy. They should start a family, whether in Paris or America. They should build a life together,” Vance said.

He added that Gabriel should also choose Emily instead of the other people who enter his life.

According to Vance, the pair repeatedly make “absurd” and sometimes “hilarious” decisions instead of simply getting together.

“And it's like obvious. Fall in love, get married, you two were made for each other, and the fact that they keep on making atrocious decisions is kind of like the best bit of cultural commentary, I would say cultural criticism of my generation, the millennials,” he said. Vance ended his analysis with a strong endorsement of the series.

“You got to watch Emily in Paris. It is, at the risk of overstating it, the Shakespeare of our time,” he said.
