Emotional Makhadzi reclaims travel documents to return to Mzansi - TimesLIVE
Makhadzi has successfully secured the return of her travel documents, allowing her to return to Mzansi after spending three difficult days in Botswana.
Videos showed the singer breaking down at the Botswana high court after being cleared to leave the country.
βIβm very happy that Iβm going back home. At this point Iβm still emotional. Things happened so fast,β she said. βMy lawyers fought so much.
βWhat was painful was that I was here for one day and it ended up being three days.β
A statement shared with TshisaLIVE on Wednesday revealed that the singer had travelled to Botswana for a show but was never booked to perform at the show, organised by Gilbert Promotions, and received no payment.
Makhadzi expressed her gratitude to her Botswana fans and her legal team.
βShe approached the court in Botswana on an urgent basis after her travel documents were taken. Diplomatic engagement between the governments of Botswana and South Africa, with the support of the Limpopo provincial government, helped secure their return,β read the statement.
βToday is election day in South Africa, and we are delighted that Makhadzi will be able to exercise her democratic right and cast her vote. Makhadzi thanks the governments of Botswana and South Africa for their diplomatic co-operation, and the premier of Limpopo and the Limpopo government for their support.β
The statement came after Makhadzi went live on her social media platforms, pleading with her Botswana fans to help her because she felt βkidnappedβ during her recent visit to the country.
βI need help. Where I am now, I feel like Iβm being kidnapped. I feel like Iβm being taken advantage of. Iβm kidnapped. Iβm harassed,β she said.
Makhadzi said the matter pertained to unresolved issues she had with a promoter who proposed she have a show in Botswana. However, they never signed an agreement.
During her performance, her road manager signalled her to say that the police were present and had asked for her because they wanted to serve a notice on her. Makhadzi was told not to leave the country and to hand over her passport or go to jail.
After the ordeal, Makhadzi said her album release date had moved to November 27 from November 13. But her one-woman show will take place on December 24 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, as planned.
