One of these journalists was Vatan columnist Rusen Cakir, who indicated that it was possible that Gul might reject the approved amendments of the Constitution on the turban matter, and make a decision that would surprise everyone.

The second of these journalists was Milliyet columnist Taha Akyol, who wrote two articles calling Gul to return this legislation to the Turkish Parliament.

The feeling I got from these articles was that somehow Gun might be leaning in this direction on the recently approved turban legislation.

In any case, both of these above-mentioned journalists later changed their stances, and wrote that Gul would in fact approve the amendments.

Cakir was explaining all the reasons that the President would in fact approve the amendments. One of the reasons listed was very striking:

"As it is, a veto by Gul, especially after the angry outbursts by the Prime Minister, could be perceived as a victory for the Dogan Group."

This was the reason which amazed me.

And I have to say that in terms of its implication for our future, I found this a worrisome reason.

So then I began to wonder, did this reason come straight to Cakir from the President's circles? Or was it just Cakir's "personal view"?

* * *No matter how much the AKP and MHP may have been angered by the "Chaos" headline, it doesn't alter the truth of it.

"I wonder if I send this back whether it would be interpreted as a victory for the Dogan Group?"

In other words, the justice, societal tension, Constitutional, social dimensions of this question are not important, but instead what lies at stake is whether the Dogan Group has scored a victory?

But there are level-headed people surrounding the President.

I wonder how they perceive such a worry becoming a part of the general analysis in possible changes to the Constitution?

I am curious though about whether this topic has arisen in possible scenario discussions taking place at Cankaya.

Because this would mean that concepts like "victory" or "routs" are entering into the search for the solution at Cankaya.

This has been my greatest fear, and I guess it's what we're facing.

* * *Since the start-up of the "turban problem," I have written the same thing many times. The vulgur and boorish way in which this problem has been dealt with has ruined everything.

And there is no one who will be able to plant a flag of victory on top of such a pile of social rubble.

The society of Turkey is in fact heading towards a defeat, and is not even aware of it.

This is also a rout for show of hands democracy.

For myself, I have forgotten the word called victory here.

And do not think that if turbans are banned from entering university campuses I will count myself as victorious.

To the contrary, I have been criticizing this sort of "victorious attitide" in others for weeks now.

After all, the turban problem becomes unsolvable if we have one side shouting whoops of victory while the other side experiences the agony of defeat.

There should be calculations about who will "win" or "lose" in this business.

If any victory whatsoever is discussed, it should be the victory of society at large.

The important factor here is that no one insists on errors which will guide the whole society towards losing.
