Ex-Rams QB reportedly linked to Giants after Jaxson Dart injury - Rams Wire

Jimmy Garoppolo's name has resurfaced in NFL circles, and this time it's not connected to the Los Angeles Rams.

The New York Giants are set to be without rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart for the rest of the season after he suffered a knee injury, leaving Jameis Winston as the team's starter for the foreseeable future this season. With New York needing to find a way to keep its season afloat, ESPN's Mike Garafolo floated Garoppolo as a realistic option worth watching.

"Jimmy Garoppolo is still out there," Garafolo said. "That's a name. The Rams wanted him back, by the way. He did consider retirement at one point. He has been working out. Retirement's not where the way he'd want to go. He would go for the right situation. My feel is that this would be one of the right situations for Jimmy Garoppolo here. So I would not be surprised if there's some discussion regarding him."

Garoppolo, who'll be 35 in November, spent the past two seasons as the Rams' backup. Despite Sean McVay saying on multiple occasions that Los Angeles would welcome Garoppolo back, the sides never got a deal done in free agency, and the Rams instead moved on with the current quarterback room built around Matthew Stafford, Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett.

Garoppolo also had discussions with the Arizona Cardinals, reportedly with former Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur pushing to bring him to the desert, but that deal fell apart before Arizona's own quarterback situation was even resolved. Garoppolo reportedly considered retirement earlier this offseason but has continued working out and would be open to playing again in the right spot.

With the Giants suddenly needing a more viable starter ahead of Winston, and Garoppolo sitting unsigned in late September, it's not hard to see why his name is back in the conversation.
