Edith LinandVivian AuPublished: 8:34am, 6 Oct 2026Updated: 8:58am, 6 Oct 2026Hong Kong’s building authorities should consider inspecting the remaining properties in a luxury residential development and tightening work process documentation after one house was found to have used insufficient steel bars during construction, experts have said.

Their suggestions followed the Buildings Department revealing at the weekend that it had launched an investigation into work quality issues at One Stanley in Stanley, one of the most expensive neighbourhoods in Southern district, and had requested information from the developer, contractor and relevant professionals.

While the department said the irregularities did not “pose obvious danger”, it did not mention whether it would examine the other properties in the development, which comprises 32 detached houses and 11 low-rise blocks containing 50 flats in total.

Lingnan University’s Professor Yau Yung, a surveyor who researches building illegality, said the department could consider inspecting the rest of the development to play safe.
