Fact Check: Assam CM threatens CJP? These videos are old
The Assam CM was referring to Congress leader Pawan Khera in this April video, after the latter alleged that Sarma's wife holds multiple foreign passports.
Multiple videos allegedly showing Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma threatening the Cockroach Janta Party have gone viral on social media.
At least 35 members of the CJP, including its co-convener Ashutosh Ranka, were detained by the Assam police on September 27 for nearly 12 hours, just before the group’s first regional meetup in Guwahati. Since then, a social media war of words has been ongoing between the CJP and Sarma.
Three videos are now being widely circulated on social media. Let’s look at them one by one. 'I'LL KICK THEM OUT'
The first video contains multiple clips. In one of these clips, a journalist asked Sarma about massive protests against him. To this, he said that he was not scared of them. In the second clip, he said, "I'll kick them out".
The latter part of the video features AI-generated clips showing Sarma in heroic scenarios, such as riding on a jeep's bonnet and wearing stylish sunglasses while standing beside an earthmover.
The first clip, where Sarma said that he was not scared of "Karim wallas", actually dates back to September 2025 when certain organisations in Assam had called for a 12-hour strike after the name of Karimganj district was changed to Sribhumi. The Assam police had lathi-charged the strikers, and more than 100 people were detained.
In the second clip, in which Himanta says that he will "kick them out", he was referring to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. It has been taken from one of his April 2026 speeches while he was campaigning during the West Bengal Assembly elections.PAWAN KHERA, NOT DIPKE
In another video, the Assam CM appears to be using abusive words for someone. The latter part of the video features Abhijit Dipke saying, "As you all know, the Assam Police has detained Ashutosh since morning. They haven’t released him yet. Tomorrow, I shall leave for Assam, and there’s a high likelihood that the Assam police will detain me as well". The text in this video reads, "Dipke is shivering with fear of Mama (Himanta Biswa Sarma)".
The Sarma clip used in this video dates back to April 2026 when Congress leader Pawan Khera had alleged that the Assam CM’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds passports of multiple countries. Sarma had denied these allegations and had responded with these comments.
The second clip featuring Dipke is from September 27, when the Assam police had detained CJP members. They were later released on the same day.
To sum it up, old videos of Himanta Biswa Sarma are being falsely shared as him threatening CJP members.- Ends
