Claim: Delivery company J&T Express is hiring, and interested applicants for the positions of repackers and sorters can apply through the link attached to the job post.
Why we fact-checked this: The posts bearing the claim have been circulating in different Facebook groups, including those named “SSS at GSIS Pension Increase Update and Pension Loan Benefit” and “Wellie Revillame Official Group.” Membership in these groups ranges between 30,300 and 619,000.
The Facebook posts share similar captions and graphics, which claim that the company is hiring repackers and sorters: “Kami ay naghahanap ng bagong kasapi para sa J&T Express. Inaanyayahan po namin ang lahat na interesado. Pwedeng-pwede ang mga PWDs at mga senior citizens.”
(We are looking for new members to join J&T Express. This is open to all interested applicants. [Persons with disabilities] and senior citizens are welcome to apply.)
These job posts claim to offer a salary of P850 per day. Several posts include links to a supposed application form in their captions.
The facts: Both the job posts and attached links are fake.
The official J&T Express Careers page previously warned the public in a September 10 Facebook post about fake hiring notices using the company’s name and branding.
In the same post, the company said that applications are only processed through its official channels, while official recruitment emails should end with @jtexpress.ph.
None of the Facebook accounts and pages used in the fake posts are included on the official website of J&T Express. Legitimate information on employment opportunities can be found on the company’s career page and Facebook recruitment page. These pages show a list of open positions under different departments, their job descriptions, and requirements.
The company has also warned the public that it does not ask for tips or charge any fees at any point during the hiring process.
Fake link, phishing risks: Scanning tool urlscan.io shows that several links in the fake posts redirect users to yet another unofficial hiring platform unrelated to J&T Express in different countries, such as Dubai, Qatar, and Australia.
Meanwhile, results from phishing scanner easydmarc show that some of the links attached to the posts are suspicious. A link from another similar post was also flagged as suspicious by the link checker powerdmac.
A separate analysis using the phishing check tool skysnag returned warning signs with a 51% risk score for all of the links included in the posts’ captions. URL scanner SafeToOpen highlighted that these links are broken, because the links may be offline, blocked, or shown only to certain visitors — a tactic that scam pages use to hide from scanners.
Clicking suspicious links that ask for personal information can expose users to potential scams. (READ: Phishing 101: How to spot and avoid phishing)
