Fact Check: Video of Jaishankar talking about Trump's fondness for Pakistan is a deepfake
This video is a deepfake. The original video shows Jaishankar addressing the Asia Society on September 28, 2026. No such statement was made by him during the address.
On September 28, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Asia Society at the conclusion of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. A video, allegedly from the event, is now going viral on social media.
It shows Jaishankar saying, “Trump is increasingly fond of Pakistan, impressed by its performance during the war with India. We are also seeing growing US-Pakistan ties. But I want to tell you one thing: India is not alone. We have the Afghan Taliban on our side, and they can create pressure across Pakistan through their proxies. While Pakistan, China, and Bangladesh are also moving closer, making strategic alliance and potentially destabilise the entire region. So, we don't have to worry.”
Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “India Foreign Minister Jaishankar said Pakistan's relationship with China, USA, and Bangladesh. Growing faster, but India is not alone. We have the Afghan Taliban on our side; they create pressure on Pakistan through proxies. They openly support 9/11 Terrorists.”
India Today Fact Check found that the video is a deepfake. Jaishankar did not make any such statement made during his address to the Asia Society.
Had the EAM made such a statement, it would have made both national and international news. However, there are no reports about the minister saying anything like this.
Reverse-searching frames from the video led to Jaishankar’s address uploaded to ANI’s YouTube channel on September 29, titled “Don't Miss This! EAM Jaishankar explains global turbulence, conflicts & shift towards multipolarity.”
Here, the minister can be seen wearing the same clothes as in the viral video. The Asia Society podium and backdrop are also the same.
During the address, Jaishankar described the current global climate as “pretty grim”, citing ongoing conflicts. He talked about the 4F crisis — food, fuel, fertilisers, and finance. He highlighted supply-chain vulnerabilities and growing geopolitical competition. He also said diplomacy had become an “extreme sport”, stressing the world’s growing interdependence and shift toward greater multipolarity.
In the entire video, we did not find him saying anything about Trump’s fondness for Pakistan or India using the Afghan Taliban against Pakistan.
Thus, we concluded that the viral video is a deepfake.- Ends
