Families of Nepal flood victims urged to submit DNA samples for identification

Krishna district Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu on Monday (September 28, 2026) urged the families of victims of the recent Nepal flash floods to submit their biological samples for DNA testing.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued directions offering free DNA profiling to identify the bodies or mortal remains of the victims, the SP said. Collected samples will be sent to Nepal to match them with the unidentified bodies or remains recovered from the disaster, he added.

Relatives, including parents, sons, daughters, and siblings, are requested to visit the nearby police stations, and the police officers will coordinate collecting samples at the Government Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Mr. Vidyasagar Naidu said in a release.

Families of the victims can submit the names of the missing persons in the tragedy, and the police officers have been instructed to collect the details and cooperate with the bereaved families in the district, the SP said.
