Farmer asks Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar for scheme to help unmarried men find brides
A farmer on Saturday urged Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to introduce a scheme to help unmarried men, especially farmers, find brides. The appeal was made at the Praja Seva event in Piriyapatna, where the farmer said many men aged between 35 and 40 were facing deep frustration because they were unable to get married.
He told Shivakumar that the problem had become serious across Karnataka and claimed that some men were dying by suicide. The chief minister, responding to the plea, asked, "What? What has happened?" before the farmer went on to explain the issue in detail.
The farmer said, "There are so many men aged between 35 and 40 who are still unmarried. Poor fellows are dying by suicide. They have become frustrated with life. They need women to marry." He made the appeal after telling the chief minister, "Sir, please. Poor people are dying by suicide. Please, something has to be done."
He said the issue had become a major problem across the state and asked Shivakumar to come up with a scheme to address it. "They have spent so much money. They have built houses and own a land, but nobody is willing to give their daughters to marry them," he said. He added, "If some arrangement can be made, it would address the lives of lakhs of young men. I humbly request you to do something for them."
The farmer also said parents were unwilling to give their daughters in marriage to farming families. "If daughters are not given to the farmers who grow crops and provide food for everyone, what can be done," he asked, adding that the issue was not just his personal problem but one faced by people across Karnataka. Hearing the plea, the chief minister laughed it off.
The exchange at the event centred on the farmer's request for a government scheme to help unmarried men, particularly farmers, find brides, with the farmer describing it as a wider issue affecting many families across Karnataka. - EndsWith PTI inputs
