More disturbing details have emerged from the investigation into the alleged gang rape at Cornell University in the US. A former student of the Ivy League institution, who accused seven fraternity members of drugging and raping her in 2024, told investigators that she was repeatedly assaulted inside a closet even though she was slipping in and out of consciousness, according to a report in the New York Post.

The fresh disclosure comes as a few media outlets accessed documents of Cornell's months-long investigation into the incident that has created a storm in the US. The allegations by the former student relate to an incident at the Chi Phi fraternity house on October 19, 2024. At that time, an investigation into the alleged assault resulted in no criminal charges.NEW DISCLOSURES BY EX-CORNELL STUDENT

The case has returned to the spotlight after the former Cornell student filed a civil lawsuit earlier this month, claiming that the university did not do enough to protect her. Prosecutors in New York have now reopened the investigation into the case.

The woman, who was 20 years old at that time, said in her lawsuit that she had been drinking at a bar before she arrived at the Chi Phi house to meet a friend, who was one of the fraternity members.

She alleged that the friend and another fraternity member gave her more alcohol and pressured her into consuming "ketamine", CNN reported. Then, the student claimed that she was taken to a closet, where she was repeatedly raped. As the alleged assaults continued, the student said she was losing consciousness.

The student told investigators that she "felt like bait". "I felt like lions around me. It was just a totally debilitating place to be in," she further said.

The investigation also examined messages allegedly shared by the fraternity members on a Snapchat group titled 'Chi Phi Actives'. One message stated, "there is free p**sy" upstairs.

The university investigation included hundreds of pages of interviews with the former student, witnesses, and six of the seven accused. The allegations about being raped in a closet were not disclosed previously to the police.

According to the report in The Post, while two of the seven accused were expelled, two were suspended for at least two semesters. One accused had already graduated before any action could be taken. Two others were found not responsible.- Ends
