Feroz Khan’s uncle-in-law shot dead
Gauteng police have confirmed they are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder after a shooting incident on the R21 towards OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Monday night.
TimesLIVE understands the deceased is Preggy Padayachee, a close associate and uncle-in-law of fired top cop Maj-Gen Feroz Khan.
According to police, the motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and no arrests have been made at this stage.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said preliminary information indicates a driver travelling in a Fiat experienced a breakdown and contacted a friend for assistance.
The friend arrived at the scene accompanied by two other people.
“As they were attending to the vehicle, shots were fired at them. The driver attempted to evade the gunfire but lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a barrier,” she said.
Nevhuhulwi said the driver sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
She said one passenger sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital, while the third occupant escaped unharmed.
Police investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Khan is expected to testify behind closed doors before the Madlanga commission on Tuesday.
