Few world leaders expected to attend Pre-COP31 in Fiji and Tuvalu  ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation

About 4,000 people are expected in Fiji this week for the Pre-COP31 meeting in the tourist town of Nadi.

World leaders from beyond the Pacific were also invited to take part. So far, only the leaders of Antigua and Barbuda, Cabo Verde, Thailand, the Maldives and Timor-Leste have been confirmed as attending.

Fiji's Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka believes delegates of countries who don't send their leaders will still be able to take what they see back to their heads of state.

"First of all, we want them to see what damages have been caused by the climate change," he said. "Secondly, what Fiji has done to try and mitigate the effects of climate change, and thirdly, to see how they can assist us in our mitigation efforts."
