Filipino green card holder in Pennsylvania pleads guilty to illegal voting in 2024 US election - GMA Network

NEW YORK — A 37-year-old Filipino permanent resident of the United States is scheduled to be sentenced in federal court in Pennsylvania for casting her vote in the US despite being a non-American.

According to a statement issued by the US Department of Justice, Filipino citizen Evelyn Miller on Wednesday pleaded guilty to illegally voting in the 2024 US general election.

The statement said only American citizens may vote in Pennsylvania under federal and state law.

She faces up to one year in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $100,000.

"We intend to prosecute anyone who corrupts our democracy by illegally voting in its elections," US Attorney David Metcalf said in the statement.

Miller is scheduled to be sentenced on December 16. Her case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI.

Based on US Department of Justice records reviewed, at least five Philippine citizens have been federally charged with illegal voting or related election offenses in the United States.

Aside from Miller, two Filipinos face similar charges in Hawaii; one in Pennsylvania/ New Jersey; and one North Carolina.

Since they are non-US citizens, their cases may also have immigration consequences, depending on their individual immigration status, charges, convictions, and other circumstances. — VDV GMA News
