Filipinos Flock to Ancestral Cemeteries to Remember Departed Relatives on All Saints’ Day - Thairath English
Filipinos across the country honor the departed on All Saints’ Day by visiting cemeteries to pray, tend graves, and meet relatives, following a long-standing tradition.
On 1 Nov 2026 GMT+7, Filipinos nationwide commemorated the deceased on All Saints’ Day by traveling to cemeteries to pay respects at graves, pray, and remember family members who have passed away.
In Manila, many people visited various cemeteries where families gathered at relatives’ graves to spend time remembering their departed loved ones.
Lorita Santos Miranda, 58, who visited the graves of her father, aunt, and sister-in-law, said that family deaths do not mean the living should forget them. Visiting the deceased is part of a passed-down tradition. She added that her family also passes this tradition to younger generations so children understand the importance of remembering departed relatives.
For many Filipinos, All Saints’ Day is also an opportunity for family members separated by distance to reunite at cemeteries and share memories of loved ones. Family members talk about past memories, including lighthearted stories like who was often scolded by parents, making the remembrance a time of shared storytelling.
