: Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said that a First Information Report (FIR) cannot be lodged against Opposition leader and Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena and her husband and CPI(M) State secretariat member P.A. Mohamed Riyas just based on a proposal from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the CMRL-Exalogic payoff case.

He told the media in Kozhikode on Sunday (September 27, 2026) that the State government recently ordered a preliminary inquiry into the case based on the legal advice it received on the issue. “The government is not opposed to registering an FIR in the case. But we decided to first conduct a preliminary inquiry based on the Advocate General’s advice. Because there was a lack of clarity on certain things,” Mr. Chennithala said.

He said that the government had placed its stand in the High Court, where the case was going on.
