Fire at Teluk Intan Apartment in North Jakarta Originated on 8th Floor, Spread Across Six Floors

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A fire at the Teluk Intan Apartment in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Sunday (20/9/2026) is suspected to have started from an electrical panel on the 8th floor that short-circuited.

The fire then spread to five other floors.

Gatot Sulaeman, Operations Head of the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department, said the apartment's security initially tried to extinguish the fire using fire extinguishers but failed.

"The fire then spread to the 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th floors," Gatot said when contacted on Sunday.

Local residents who saw thick smoke coming from the apartment windows immediately notified the firefighters.

"At 18:17 Western Indonesian Time, we received a request for assistance to put out the fire. North Jakarta Firefighters deployed 16 units to the scene," Gatot explained.

Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident.

A total of 16 fire trucks supported by 80 personnel were deployed to extinguish the blaze.

The fire was contained around 18:45 WIB, followed by cooling operations starting at 19:00 WIB.

However, the entire handling and extinguishing process was declared complete at 20:38 WIB.

"The fire destroyed an area of approximately 156 square meters," Gatot said.

All operations concluded at 20:38 WIB, with the fire confirmed fully extinguished.
