Firefighters are battling a wind-driven blaze on the mountain slopes above Simondium in the Cape Winelands.
Firefighters are battling a wind-driven blaze on the mountain slopes above Simondium in the Cape Winelands.
The fire is burning above La Plaisir Wine Estate, where strong winds and high fuel loads are making firefighting efforts difficult.
Two Cape Winelands District Municipality ground teams and a CapeNature crew have been deployed.
Winelands District Municipality’s Joanne Otto said that the terrain is currently inaccessible to fire vehicles.
"Crews are concerned that strong winds may cause further spot fires, resulting in the fire spreading to new areas. The firefighting operations will continue for at least the next 12 hours."
