The Kallur police in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district arrested five people on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) in connection with the marriage of a minor girl to a young man from Kadapa district.
According to the police, the marriage took place on Sunday night. Acting on information from residents of the neighbourhood, the police launched an inquiry and rescued the girl, who was moved to a government home in Tirupati.
Based on a complaint lodged by the girl, the police arrested the groom, his parents, the girl’s mother and a mediator who allegedly facilitated the marriage.
The five accused were produced before the district court in Chittoor and later remanded in judicial custody and lodged in the sub-jail here. Police said further investigation was under way.
