Five men were arrested in Uppal on Monday for allegedly conspiring to murder a man, with police seizing two country-made pistols, eight bullets and three knives from them.

The accused were identified as Thokata Thanay Kumar alias Kanna, 26, a loan recovery agent from Bharath Nagar in Uppal; Shaik Akbar, 26; Aditya Kumar Thakur, 33, a security guard at Amazon in Kokapet and a native of Bhagalpur in Bihar; Dudani Laxman Singh alias Sonu, 27, a welding worker from Kothapet; and Vadtya Venkatesh alias Nani, 22, a native of Varthya Thanda in Nalgonda district.

According to Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi, the five had conspired to murder Arfaj in retaliation for the killing of Dasari Surender. The officer said that Surender allegedly murdered his wife, Shaba, suspecting her of being in multiple relationships and later murdered Salman, Shaba’s brother, in 2024. Arfaj, another brother of Shaba, allegedly murdered Surender in July 2026.

Police said Arfaj was recently released from jail, following which followers of Surender allegedly planned to murder him as an act of revenge. The five accused allegedly planned to target him.

“As part of the plan, Thanay Kumar and Akbar allegedly transferred ₹35,000 to Thakur through UPI. Thakur then travelled to the Saidpur Dabra area of Bhagalpur district in Bihar, where he allegedly purchased two country-made pistols and six bullets from an unidentified person for ₹30,000 and brought them to Hyderabad.

On Monday, Uppal police, along with the LB Nagar SOT team, were conducting routine patrolling when they noticed the five men moving suspiciously at an open place near the Musi River. Police apprehended the men and conducted a search, during which two pistols, eight bullets and three knives were recovered from the possession of two of the accused. Police said questioning subsequently revealed the alleged conspiracy.

Police said Thanay Kumar had previous cases registered against him, including a case under the Arms Act, while Akbar and Venkatesh had previous criminal cases. Thakur had previous cases involving the Arms Act and NDPS Act.

Laxman Singh is a rowdy sheeter of Chaitanyapuri police station and has previously been involved in 30 criminal cases, including two murder cases, thefts, house burglaries, extortion, criminal conspiracy and offences under the Arms Act and NDPS Act.
